A Rock Valley man is facing a felony charge after authorities say methamphetamine was discovered while he was being booked into jail.
According to court documents, 42-year-old Kevin Donald Schneider of Rock Valley was arrested early Sunday, April 27th, by the Rock Valley Police Department.
Authorities say the situation began around 1:30 a.m. when an officer observed a vehicle parked outside a flooded residence that had been posted with a “do not enter or occupy” notice. After announcing their presence, officers made contact with Schneider, who exited the home.
Court records indicate that while Schneider was being booked into the Sioux County Jail, correctional staff located a small, clear bag inside his shoe. The substance and residue were later field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Schneider is now charged with:
•Introducing intoxicants or drugs into an institution (correctional facility), a Class D felony
•Possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine (1st offense), a serious misdemeanor
He was also cited for trespass in connection to the incident.
If convicted, the felony charge carries a potential prison sentence of up to five years.
Schneider was booked into the Sioux County Jail and later released after posting a $1,000 cash or surety bond.
It should be noted that a criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
