Rock Valley Man Arrested on Felony Cocaine Charge

A Rock Valley man has been arrested on a felony drug warrant following a search conducted earlier this fall.

Court documents from the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s Office show that 28-year-old Taylor Hanson of Rock Valley is accused of possessing a quantity of cocaine large enough to elevate the charge to a felony. Hanson was taken into custody on Friday.

According to a report from a Rock Valley Police officer, a search warrant was executed at Hanson’s residence in October. During the search, Rock Valley Police K-9 Gus alerted to the odor of narcotics inside a bedroom closet. Officers say more than 69 grams of a white powder were discovered at that location.

The substance field-tested positive for cocaine, with subsequent testing by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation lab confirming the result.

Hanson has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, a Class C felony. If convicted, he could face up to ten years in prison.

He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on January 6th.

Hanson was booked into the Sioux County Jail in Orange City and was released the following day after posting a $10,000 bond.
