Rock Valley and two Lyon County recipients will receive more than $5.5 million in federal disaster assistance for storm and flood recovery projects, according to an announcement from U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley.
The local awards are part of more than $18.2 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency funding supporting repairs, debris removal, and other disaster-related work across eight Iowa counties.
Rock Valley and Lyon County Awards
The City of Rock Valley will receive $3,826,987.31 for permanent repairs, including work on city maintenance and storage buildings damaged by severe weather.
Lyon County Secondary Roads will receive $1,178,580.75 for permanent repairs, including bridge replacement. The City of Rock Rapids will receive another $527,625 for debris removal operations.
The announcement identifies severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds, and tornadoes as the disaster categories associated with those awards.
“Iowans have worked tirelessly to repair and rebuild after terrible storms struck our state,” Grassley said. “It’s encouraging to see these federal dollars coming to support the Hawkeye State as Iowans continue to be resilient. In the Senate, I’ll keep working to ensure Iowans get the support they need.”
Additional Northwest Iowa Projects
Other awards will support recovery work elsewhere in northwest Iowa:
- Buena Vista County Conservation Board: $1,314,688.50 for permanent repairs, including work on the Linn Grove Dam.
- City of Cherokee: $260,714.91 for building exterior, building interior, and other repairs or replacement.
- City of Correctionville: $251,250 for debris removal operations.
- City of Sioux City: $145,199.40 in Public Assistance grants.
Those awards also address damage associated with severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds, and tornadoes.
Funding Across Iowa
The largest individual award in the announcement is $10,146,128.22 for Cornell College in Linn County. That funding will support permanent repairs to its historic 1882 chapel following severe storms.
The Polk County Conservation Board will receive $363,356.10 for culvert, inlet, and outlet repair or replacement following severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding.
The City of Minden will receive $138,479.51 in Public Assistance grants related to severe storms and tornadoes. Honey Creek Drainage District #6 will receive $106,374.18 in Public Assistance grants related to severe storms, flooding, straight-line winds, and tornadoes.
Together, the awards cover recipients in Linn, Polk, Cherokee, Lyon, Woodbury, Buena Vista, Sioux, and Pottawattamie counties.
