An end-of-year flood recovery update released this morning on the City of Rock Valley’s website outlines where recovery efforts stand following last year’s historic flooding, with much of the progress still dependent on FEMA’s approval process.
Rock Valley City Administrator Tom Van Maanen says the update is meant to reassure residents that the buyout program is still moving forward, despite the slow pace.
Van Maanen says one of the most frustrating aspects of the process is the lack of a clear timeline from FEMA.
Van Maanen also credited Fourth District Congressman Randy Feenstra of Hull for advocating on Rock Valley’s behalf. Feenstra recently told Sioux County Radio that he has been meeting with FEMA weekly.
Despite the uncertainty, Van Maanen says the City believes it is nearing the final stages and wants residents to remain hopeful.
