In the weeks ahead, Sioux County Radio will be highlighting candidates running for Iowa governor. Through one-on-one interviews, the series is designed to help our local audience better understand who the candidates are, what they stand for, and why they believe they would make a strong leader for the state.
We are beginning our series on the GOP side today with Republican gubernatorial candidate and former director of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services, Adam Steen.
Steen says he views the governor’s role as the “CEO of the state” and believes he would be ready to lead immediately if elected.
Steen explains that one of his top priorities would be limiting the use of eminent domain, arguing that private property should not be taken for private development.
He also says reforming property taxes and promoting skilled trades would be key focuses of his administration, pointing to opportunities for young Iowans to find stable careers without necessarily pursuing a four-year degree.
On property taxes, Steen says local governments play a significant role in driving tax increases and believes residents should be more engaged in local decision-making.
Steen also says healthcare access is a major issue for the state and believes Iowa should work toward becoming a leader in healthcare.
Asked about the field of candidates, Steen says he views the race as one that reflects big differences in values and leadership approach. He was critical of Democratic Candidate and State Auditor Rob Sand, saying voters should take a closer look at where candidates stand on key issues.
In closing, Steen says his experience, conservative principles, and understanding of Iowa’s culture set him apart from the rest of the field.
Steen says he would work with the legislature to advance conservative policies and believes he could step into the role of governor without the need for a transition period.
