Parent & Community Safety Night Held Tonight in Hull

A parent and community safety information night is being held tonight (February 9) in Hull.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says part of the evening will include a viewing of the Gridshock documentary, which focuses on sex trafficking cases that have occurred in Iowa.

Law enforcement officials say the documentary highlights how common human trafficking is and is aimed at parents and young adults. They encourage parents to watch the film alongside their children or teenagers so the topic can be discussed afterward.

According to officers, the documentary explains how victims become trapped in trafficking situations, why it’s difficult for them to leave, and how warning signs often go unnoticed. The film also outlines the different ways trafficking can occur — from abductions in public places to situations involving someone the victim knows and trusts, including authority figures.

The event will also include a panel discussion focused on teenage online safety, addressing risks teens may face online and how parents and guardians can help protect them.

Childcare will be provided.

The safety night is being held at the Boyden-Hull Junior and Senior High School Auditorium, located at 801 1st Street in Hull, starting at 7:00 p.m.

The event is free and open to parents, guardians, educators, community members, and anyone concerned about teen safety and online awareness.
