OWI Arrest Made After Crash Involving Sheriff’s Office Patrol Vehicle in Hull

A Rock Valley man was arrested for operating while intoxicated following a late-night crash involving a Sioux County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle in Hull.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened Saturday night, January 10th, just before midnight. A deputy’s patrol vehicle was traveling westbound on Highway 18 and was making a right turn onto Chestnut Drive when it was rear-ended by a white Chevrolet Malibu driven by 44-year-old Vicente Lopez-Gomez of Rock Valley.

Authorities say Lopez-Gomez left the scene after the collision, which resulted in minor damage to both vehicles, but was stopped a short time later in connection with the crash and additional traffic violations.

During the stop, deputies observed signs of intoxication. Lopez-Gomez was arrested and transported to the Sioux County Jail, where he was charged with operating while intoxicated. He was also cited for following too close and driving without a valid driver’s license.

The Iowa State Patrol investigated the crash. No injuries were reported.
