One Person Reported to Have Sustained “Serious Injuries” in Crash South Of Hull

One person was reported to have sustained “serious injuries” in a two-vehicle crash south of Hull on Tuesday morning.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened at about 10:57 a.m. on May 5th at the intersection of Hickory Avenue and 370th Street, about four miles south of Hull.

Authorities say 78-year-old Vernon DeBoer of Rock Valley was driving a 2013 Kenworth truck eastbound on 370th Street. Meanwhile, 27-year-old Alyssa Van Beek of Rock Valley was driving a 2019 Ford Expedition southbound on Hickory Avenue.

Deputies say Van Beek failed to yield the right of way to the truck, and the Kenworth struck the Ford.

Van Beek and three children were transported by Sioux Center Ambulance to Sioux Center Health. Authorities say one of the occupants sustained serious injuries.

DeBoer was also taken by ambulance to Sioux Center Health for treatment of minor injuries.

Damage to the Kenworth was estimated at $75,000, and to the Ford Expedition at $55,000.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Sioux Center Police Department, the Iowa State Patrol, the Sioux Center Fire Department, the Sioux Center Ambulance, and Sioux County Emergency Management.
