Northwestern College is partnering with Western Theological Seminary to create a faster, more affordable pathway for students pursuing ministry.

Accelerated Degree Option

The new program allows students in Northwestern’s biblical and theological studies major to begin work toward a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) while completing their undergraduate degree.

Officials say students can earn both a bachelor’s degree and an M.Div. in about six years. That trims at least a year off the traditional timeline.

Built on Existing Success

College leaders say the partnership builds on a long-standing relationship between Northwestern and Western.

They point to a strong track record of Northwestern graduates entering seminary well prepared for advanced coursework.

How the Program Works

The accelerated pathway allows select undergraduate coursework to count toward the seminary degree.

Students can apply to the program at any point during their first three years at Northwestern.

The program also includes guided support as students discern a call to ministry.

Shared Mission and Formation

Both Northwestern and Western are rooted in the Reformed Christian tradition.

Leaders say that a shared foundation helps ensure continuity in theological training while preparing students for leadership in the church.

Meeting a Growing Need

The partnership comes as churches across the country face a shortage of pastors and ministry leaders.

Officials say the program is designed to better equip students for ministry while helping them reduce both time and financial cost.

More information on the program is available through Western Theological Seminary.
