A new American Cuisine restaurant in Orange City held its ribbon-cutting in early November.
The Foxhole is owned and operated by Rebecca and James Montoya, with Rebecca as the Manager, James as the Executive Chef, and Jay Schuiteman as one of their business partners. The Montoya duo has been in the restaurant industry for many years in Colorado and Nebraska, but this is the first one they have opened themselves with investors. Rebecca Montoya recalls how they decided to open the Foxhole in Orange City.
The restaurant officially opened in an old car dealer’s building in downtown Orange City in February after Schelling Construction renovated it. According to the Iowa Restaurant Association, over 300 are planning to close this year, and just under half of them aren’t profitable. Despite the statewide slump, Montoya recalls how they have navigated the year.
She lays out what one of their greatest difficulties so far has been.
Montoya believes the best way to succeed in the restaurant industry is by having an excellent community to support each other.
The Cuisine is closed Monday and Tuesday, but open 11-8 Wednesday and Thursday, 11-10 Friday and Saturday, as well as 11-2 Sundays.
