A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital following a single-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon in Sioux Center.

According to the Sioux Center Police Department, the accident occurred shortly after noon at the intersection of Highway 75 and 20th Street Southeast, the intersection by Pizza Hut and American State Bank.

The report says a 42-year-old woman was driving a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle southbound on Highway 75 when the traffic signal changed from yellow to red. Police say the motorcyclist slowed as she prepared to stop but lost control of the motorcycle.

The driver fell from the motorcycle onto the roadway, while the motorcycle continued south across the intersection before coming to rest in the southeast ditch.

The woman was transported by Sioux Center Ambulance to Sioux Center Health with injuries the report classified as suspected serious or incapacitating.

Police listed loss of control and operator inexperience as contributing circumstances. The accident occurred during daylight under clear weather conditions, and the roadway was dry. Damage to the motorcycle was estimated at $4,000.

The report provided to Sioux County Radio did not identify the motorcyclist. No citations were listed.
