A livestock trailer fire killed several baby pigs near Hospers Tuesday morning.
Hospers Fire Chief Jason Overmole says firefighters were called at about 7:50am to Highway 60 near Hospers Drive South – southwest of Hospers. Firefighters used water and foam to extinguish the fire with mutual aid from Granville.
More than 100 pigs died because of the fire which Overmole says appears to be caused by a mechanical issue. He says the fire was so hot, it melted parts of the aluminum trailer. Firefighters were on the scene for about two hours.
