K-9 McGrath and Deputy Dorhout Attend Training

Last week, Sioux County Sheriff Deputy Jessica Dorhout and Crisis K-9 McGrath, a.k.a. Big Mac, were given the opportunity to train with the Crisis Canines of the Midlands and their K-9 teams under the direction of TEAM K9 Academy.

The training focused on desensitization through exposure to different emergency scenes. They were exposed to emergency response vehicles, bombs, robots, drones, exposure, conquering heights, and exposing them to new animals at the Blank Park Zoo.  In addition, there was obstacle course training, tornado simulation training, and experiencing a close-up helicopter landing.

Dorhout says these dogs do amazing work helping kids, community members, and first responders in traumatic events. She says she and Big Mac learned a lot from the experience and were honored and humbled to train alongside other teams.
