Ireton Man Charged with Possessing Firearm as Domestic Abuse Offender

An Ireton man has been charged after the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says deputies determined he was illegally in possession of a firearm.

According to the sheriff’s office, 37-year-old Jesse Cole Andrews was arrested Saturday, June 6th, at about 9:34 p.m. following an investigation at a residence along 440th Street near Ireton.

Authorities say deputies determined Andrews had a firearm while legally prohibited from doing so due to a prior domestic abuse conviction. Andrews was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Domestic Abuse Offender, a Class D Felony.

According to the criminal complaint, deputies allegedly found Andrews in possession of a Savage Model 64 .22 caliber rifle. Court documents state Andrews admitted to possessing the rifle when a deputy arrived to speak with him regarding an unrelated matter.

Jail records show Andrews was booked into the Sioux County Jail and later released Sunday, June 7th, after posting a $5,000 cash or surety bond.

In Iowa, a Class D felony carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.
