Iowa Traffic Fatalities on Pace to Fall Below 300 in 2025

There’s encouraging news to report when it comes to traffic fatalities in Iowa as 2025 comes to a close.

Kevin Krull of the Iowa State Patrol says the state appears to be on track to reach a historic milestone.

Krull points to one key factor he believes has contributed to the decline in fatal crashes.

Krull says state troopers are hopeful the positive trend will continue into 2026.

However, officials note that fatal crashes continue to occur. The Iowa State Patrol reports a traffic fatality on Christmas Day in northwest Iowa. A 75-year-old woman from Mapleton died in a collision in Monona County, where troopers say dense fog was a contributing factor.
