Iowa Governor Candidates Comment on Rising Cancer Rates at Sioux County Event

Four Iowa gubernatorial candidates appeared at a forum on Monday night in Sioux Center, sponsored by the Iowa Standard blog. Zach Lahn of Belle Plaine says Iowans know there’s something terribly wrong with the status quo.

Lahn is endorsed by MAHA Action, a group aligned with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Pastor Brad Sherman, a former state legislator from Williamsburg, says it’s time for independent studies to confirm why Iowa’s cancer rate is so high.

Former Director of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services, Adam Steen, says there had been no history of cancer in his family, but his father died of kidney cancer three years ago, and his mother recently survived breast cancer.

Eddie Andrews of Johnston, a member of the Iowa House, says it was misguided for the Iowa Senate to pass a bill that would have provided liability protection to Monsanto, the maker of Roundup.

Congressman Randy Feenstra, the other Republican candidate in the race for governor, did not appear at Monday night’s event with his G-O-P rivals. Instead, he spoke at Late Harvest Brewery in Sioux Center.
