Hull man killed, Sioux Center man injured in Highway 18 crash

A Hull man was killed, and a Sioux Center man was injured Saturday in a two-vehicle crash west of Jay Avenue on Highway 18, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

The crash happened when a 2005 GMC Yukon, driven by 21-year-old Enrique De Leon Martinez of Sioux Center, was traveling eastbound on Highway 18 and crossed the center line into the westbound lane. The Yukon collided head-on with a 2003 Chrysler Town & Country driven by 63-year-old Brian Dean Bouma of Hull.

Bouma was fatally injured in the crash. Authorities said he was wearing a seat belt but was pronounced dead at the scene. 

De Leon Martinez was injured and transported by Sheldon Ambulance to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center for treatment. The patrol noted that he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene by C&H Towing.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted at the scene by Sheldon Ambulance, Oolman Funeral Home, and other local emergency personnel.

The crash remains under investigation.
