Hawarden Man Faces Child Contact, Domestic Assault Charges

A Hawarden man is facing multiple charges following a domestic incident earlier this month involving children.

According to court records, 43-year-old Fidel Hernandez-Trejo was arrested on April 17th by the Hawarden Police Department.

He is charged with indecent contact with a child, domestic abuse assault – first offense, and driving while barred.

Court documents state officers were called to a residence on 12th Street in Hawarden around 8:40 that evening for a reported disturbance.

Authorities say Hernandez-Trejo and the victim, who live together and share children, were involved in a verbal argument that escalated.

According to the affidavit, Hernandez-Trejo allegedly threw a set of car keys toward the victim during the dispute.

Investigators say the situation became physical, though the initial contact between the two was unclear.

Court records state the victim retreated into a bedroom and locked the door, but Hernandez-Trejo allegedly forced entry by kicking the door, leaving a visible shoe impression.

Authorities say once inside, he struck the victim in the back of the head.

Officials say two children were present during the incident, and one intervened by placing herself between the two before Hernandez-Trejo left the residence.

Court documents also indicate Hernandez-Trejo admitted to consuming alcohol before the incident.

Online jail records show that Hernandez-Trejo was held on a $4,300 bond and was later released on April 20th to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
