Hawarden Man Arrested Twice in Two Days on Domestic-Related Charges

A Hawarden man was arrested twice over the weekend on separate domestic-related charges in Sioux County.

Court documents show 38-year-old Ian Shea Hultquist was first arrested by the Hawarden Police Department early Saturday morning, June 6, on a charge of Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Bodily Injury – First Offense, a serious misdemeanor.

According to a criminal complaint, officers were dispatched to a Hawarden residence at about 2:37 a.m. Saturday for a reported domestic abuse assault. The complaint alleges Hultquist threw the victim to the ground in the basement of the home, causing a head injury. The victim and Hultquist are identified in court documents as parents of the same child. Hultquist allegedly told officers he had been attempting to calm the victim, who he said had been in a hysterical state for several hours.

Hultquist was booked into the Sioux County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Authorities say Hultquist was arrested again later that same day by the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of Violation of a No Contact Order – Domestic Abuse, a simple misdemeanor.

According to a second criminal complaint, Hultquist had been served with a protective order following the earlier domestic abuse arrest. Investigators allege that while being held at the Sioux County Jail, he used a jail communications device to send multiple text messages to the protected party at around 4:00 p.m. Saturday. The complaint states the messages included statements such as “I didn’t deserve this” and discussions about arranging a bond for his release.

He was again booked into custody on a $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Court records indicate both cases remain pending.
