Growth and development activity in Sioux Center continues to trend upward in 2026, according to updates presented during recent Sioux Center City Council staff reports.
Building Official Kris Pieper says the city is on pace to potentially surpass last year’s construction numbers, with continued residential and multifamily development expected throughout the community.
In 2025, the city issued 194 building permits compared to 181 the previous year, while permit revenue also increased. Pieper says activity north of town and additional multifamily projects are expected to fuel continued growth.
Pieper also noted that Sioux Center continues to see strong contractor activity and relatively few major inspection issues, crediting local builders and developers for maintaining high standards.
The city also continues to monitor issues tied to growth, including vehicle parking concerns in residential areas. Sioux Center recently rolled out an auxiliary parking permit program aimed at reducing vehicles parked on grass or other unapproved surfaces.
Meanwhile, Sioux Center Assistant City Manager Dennis Dokter and Centre Mall Administrative Assistant Jacy Andresen told council members the mall is also seeing continued investment and expansion from existing businesses.
Centre Mall representatives reported that while retail sales overall are slightly down compared to last year, several businesses are actively expanding into larger spaces within the mall.
Reflections is expanding into the former driver’s license office space, while “Three Twelve Boutique” is planning to expand into part of the former Pat’s space, adding children’s clothing, toys, gifts, and other merchandise.
Mall officials say they currently have three vacant spaces they hope to fill, including the former spa location and the old Arrow Boutique storefront.
In addition to tenant growth, the mall is planning landscaping improvements, additional events, updated lighting, and potential branding or marketing changes in the future.
Andresen says filling those remaining vacancies remains a major focus moving forward.
Officials also highlighted continued community events at the mall, including the farmers market, Crazy Days activities, and the growing “Breakfast with the Easter Bunny” event held in partnership with the All Seasons Center.
City staff says Sioux Center’s continued residential, commercial, and retail growth reflects ongoing investment throughout the community.
