Senator Grassley congratulated Iowa’s student athletes for their recent achievements in various sports competitions. He specifically praised the Dordt University women’s basketball team for winning the NAIA National Championship. Fittingly, the Defenders successfully defended their title, becoming back-to-back champions.

The Dordt Women’s Basketball Team claimed the NAIA National Championship with an impressive 82-73 victory over Indiana Wesleyan. This marks their second consecutive national title, capping off a dominant season with a 35-2 record. The team led the entire second half of the game, showcasing their strength and determination.

Key players such as Macy Sievers, Janie Van Donge, and Gracie Schoonhoven were instrumental in the victory, with Sievers being named the Player of the Tournament for the second year in a row. Van Donge also received the Hustle Award for the second consecutive year. The team’s performance over the past three years has been remarkable, with a combined record of 100-8.

Grassley emphasized the importance of sports in bringing communities together and noted that sports serve as a refreshing antidote in these polarizing times. You can view Grassley’s full comments here.
