Seven Candidates Seek Five Seats on Sioux County Extension Council

Sioux County voters will choose from seven candidates for five seats on the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Sioux County Extension Council in the November 3rd general election.

Council members are elected at large, meaning all voters in Sioux County are eligible to vote for up to five candidates. Those elected will take office in January 2027.

“The council members elected this year will be involved in bringing educational opportunities to Sioux County for the next four years,” said Regional Director Greta Giese.

Candidates on the ballot are:

  • Calvin Bomgaars, Hull
  • Cheryl Buntsma, Orange City
  • Amy Cleveringa, Alton
  • Brent Hooyer, Hospers
  • Jeremy Jansen, Hull
  • Brent Oolman, Orange City
  • Martina Scholtens, Orange City

Bomgaars, Buntsma, and Cleveringa are current council members whose terms expire this year.

The council makes programming and budget decisions for ISU Extension and Outreach in Sioux County. Members also work with local decision-makers, build community relationships, and help address local issues through educational programs.

Programming is a cooperative effort involving local residents, Iowa State University, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Current council members whose terms continue beyond the end of 2026 are Hayley Moss of Hull, Cathy Punt of Alton, and Ryan Roetman of Hospers.

ISU Extension and Outreach operates 100 field offices serving all 99 Iowa counties. More information about Sioux County programming is available at extension.iastate.edu/sioux.
