Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has endorsed Republican Lyon County Supervisor candidate Cody Hoefert ahead of the June 2 primary election.
The endorsement was announced Monday in a campaign press release distributed by Hoefert’s campaign.
Hoefert, a longtime Rock Rapids City Council member and former co-chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa, is seeking the Republican nomination for the Lyon County Supervisor District 4 seat currently held by Jerry Birkey, who is not seeking reelection. Hoefert faces fellow Republican Damon Pedersen in the June 2 primary.
In the endorsement statement, Reynolds praised Hoefert’s conservative leadership.
“Cody Hoefert is exactly the kind of conservative leader Lyon County needs on the Board of Supervisors,” Reynolds said. “He understands northwest Iowa values, knows that taxpayers deserve respect, and will bring common sense, accountability, and a steady hand to county government. Cody will stand up for families, farmers, small businesses, and the rural communities that make Lyon County strong. I’m proud to support Cody Hoefert for Lyon County Supervisor.”

Campaign Priorities
Hoefert says he is honored to receive the endorsement and believes it reflects both his conservative record and his experience working with state leaders.
Hoefert says that Governor Reynolds knows the type of leadership that he brings.
Hoefert says his background in local government and Republican Party leadership has helped him build relationships that could benefit Lyon County at the county, state, and national levels.
He has centered much of his campaign around property tax concerns, rural infrastructure, and economic growth. During a previous interview with Sioux County Radio, Hoefert pointed to his 16 years on the Rock Rapids City Council, where he says the community lowered tax levies while continuing to invest in infrastructure and economic development.
Hoefert has also emphasized concerns over rising property tax assessments and the need for long-term investments in roads and bridges serving Lyon County’s agricultural economy.
During a recent interview, Hoefert also pointed to protecting Iowa farmers from eminent domain as a campaign priority.
Political Background
In addition to his local government experience, Hoefert has served for many years as Lyon County Republican Party chairman or co-chairman and previously served as co-chairman of the Republican Party of Iowa.
The endorsement from Reynolds follows earlier endorsements from State Representative Skyler Wheeler and Doon Mayor Tim Mantel.
Early voting is already underway ahead of the June 2 Republican primary.
