Former West Lyon Softball Coach Pleads Not Guilty to Sexual Exploitation Charges

A former West Lyon softball coach accused of sexually exploiting a student has pleaded not guilty to multiple felony charges.

According to court documents, 26-year-old Alexis Severson of Larchwood entered a not guilty plea Monday, Dec. 1, on three counts of sexual exploitation by a school employee and one count of grooming, all Class D felonies. The filings also indicate that Severson has waived her right to a speedy trial.

Severson, who previously served as head softball coach at West Lyon, is accused of engaging in a long-term sexual relationship with a student. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office arrested her on Friday, Oct. 31, following an investigation.

She was released the same day on a signature bond.

If convicted on all counts, Severson could face up to 20 years in prison.

A trial date has not yet been set.
