Feenstra Announces $38.5 Million in Funding for 185th Air Refueling Wing in Sioux City

U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra, a Republican from Hull, says the House Appropriations Committee has approved $38.5 million in proposed Fiscal Year 2027 funding for the 185th Air Refueling Wing at Sioux Gateway Airport.

Speaking in a recorded statement, Feenstra called the funding a significant development for the region.

The project focuses on long-needed runway improvements to better support the KC-135 refueling aircraft stationed at the base. Officials say the current runway has faced ongoing challenges for more than two decades, including wear tied to heavy aircraft operations.

Feenstra says the effort stems from a long-standing federal commitment to upgrade infrastructure at the airport.

According to federal officials, the 185th Air Refueling Wing plays a key role in national defense by supporting aerial refueling missions for U.S. and allied aircraft worldwide.

Feenstra also notes the investment is expected to have a local economic impact, including protecting jobs tied to the base and strengthening long-term operations at Sioux Gateway Airport.

The funding still needs final approval as part of the federal budget process.
