One person died from injuries suffered on Friday evening in an accident one mile north of Ireton. On Friday, at 6:16 p.m., Sioux County Communications received 9-1-1 calls reporting a motor vehicle accident involving a commercial motor vehicle that occurred on Eagle Avenue, one mile north of Ireton.
59 year old Diane O’Regan of Rock Valley was driving a 2006 Jeep Commander southbound on Eagle Avenue. 50 year old Daniel Van Driel of Freeman, SD, was driving a 2005 Peterbilt semi-tractor (no trailer attached) northbound on Eagle Avenue. As the two met, O’Regan crossed the center of the roadway and the struck rear dual wheels of the Peterbilt.
O’Regan required extrication from the vehicle by emergency responders and was transported by the Ireton Ambulance Hawarden Regional Healthcare where she died as a result of her injuries. Van Driel did not report any injuries.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Ireton Fire Department, Ireton Ambulance, and the Iowa State Patrol Technical Collision Investigation Unit.
The accident remains under investigation.
