A Doon man was seriously injured in a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a parked semi-truck Tuesday night in Lyon County.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, the crash occurred on April 21st at around 8:37 p.m. at the intersection of Grant Avenue and 270th Street.
Authorities say 19-year-old Levi Maassen of Doon was driving a 2023 Polaris side-by-side southbound on Grant Avenue when he struck a 2013 Peterbilt semi-truck that was parked on the west shoulder. The semi, driven by 26-year-old Alan Baker of Pipestone, Minnesota, was reportedly offloading fertilizer at the time.
The crash report indicates Maassen was not wearing a seatbelt. Following the collision, his vehicle came to rest in the east ditch and overturned.
Maassen was initially transported by ground ambulance to the Hegg Health Center before being airlifted by Sanford AirMed to Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center with serious injuries.
Authorities say Baker was outside the semi at the time of the crash and was not injured.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
