Derecho Cleanup Still Ongoing at Oak Grove Park

The clean-up after the Derecho is still ongoing for the Sioux County Conservation Board and especially at Oak Grove Park. On Monday, July 25th, of this year, damaging winds swept across Sioux County and the surrounding area, causing extreme damage and power outages.

Assistant Director and Environmental Education Coordinator for the Sioux County Conservation Board, Sunday Ford, discussed the ongoing clean-up efforts in a recent episode of the Daily Grind.

Ford describes the aftereffects of the Derecho at Oak Grove Park as disastrous.

While people are now permitted to drive down to the river and some of the trails are open, plenty of cleanup still needs to be done.

Ford says the campground at the park was closed due to tree debris and that work on the trails in the more wooded areas continues.

She also says that they’d appreciate it if the public could bear with them during the ongoing efforts and that they don’t need volunteers at the moment.

You can hear more of Sunday Ford’s comments on the aftereffects of the Derecho and more about the upcoming programs from the Sioux County Conservation Board by listening to the Daily Grind episode, which can be found here.
