Avera Health has announced a historic $35 million gift from philanthropist, entrepreneur, and child health advocate B. Thomas Golisano—the largest single donation in the organization’s history.
The contribution supports pediatric care through Avera’s “Tomorrow’s Promise” Campaign and will help fund the construction of a new six-story patient care tower in Sioux Falls. In recognition of the gift, the children’s hospital within that facility will be named the Avera Golisano Children’s Hospital.
Avera officials say the investment will significantly expand capacity and enhance care delivery for children and families across the region. Plans include increasing access to pediatric specialists, expanding behavioral health services, and improving family-centered care spaces.
“This gift will significantly expand capacity and enhance care delivery,” said Avera President and CEO Jim Dover. “Children from across our entire region will benefit from this gift for generations to come.”
The project is part of a broader $165 million expansion focused on care for newborns, children, and families. The new addition is expected to open in early 2027.
Avera and its affiliates operate more than 300 locations across a five-state region, including multiple hospitals and clinics in northwest Iowa.
