Gustafson and Beckman Earn All-American Honors

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), has announced its All-American teams for the recently completed 2022-23 season and Karly Gustafson (Senior; Ethan, South Dakota) and Bailey Beckman (Senior; Panora, Iowa) were both accorded honors.

Gustafson is a second-team selection after averaging 16.5 points per game with 7.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists per outing. Gustafson converted 61.7 percent of her field goals this season and lifted her career scoring total to 1,514 points (3rd all-time), 841 rebounds (3rd all-time) and 230 assists (17th all-time). Gustafson was earlier named to the All-Great Plains Athletic Conference First Team.

Beckman scored 15.5 points per game while taking away 1.2 steals per game and she made 39.2 percent of her three-point field goals with 65 made three-pointers. Beckman has now scored 1,431 career points (4th all-time) and has 175 made three-point baskets (3rd all-time). Beckman was earlier named to the All-Great Plains Athletic Conference First Team.

The Defenders concluded the 2022-23 season with a 30-4 record and a berth in the Round of 16 in the NAIA National Championship bracket. The Defenders are 98-33 in the duo’s four seasons at Dordt. Both Gustafson and Beckman have indicated they intend to return to Dordt to compete a final season in 2023-24. This is the fifth year in a row the Defenders have had a women’s basketball player named to a NAIA All-American honor team.
