LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its All-Region honors last week, with three Raiders and head coach Kyle Van Den Bosch receiving honors in the Midnorth region.
Kyle Van Den Bosch – Midnorth Region Coach of the Year
The regional coach of the year for the third year in a row, Van Den Bosch led the Raiders to another outstanding season, winning the GPAC regular season and tournament titles, and advancing to the NAIA championship match. Under his direction, the Raiders have gone 97-7 in the last three seasons and have made two national championship appearances.
Stella Winterfeld – First Team (Outside Hitter); Midnorth Region Player of the Year
Winning GPAC and Midnorth Region Player of the Year, Winterfeld had a breakout season in her first year at outside hitter. The junior finished the year fifth in the NAIA in kills per set (4.41) and led the Raiders with 419 kills.
Zavyr Metzger – First Team (Middle Hitter)
Leading the NAIA in blocks per set (1.99) for the third consecutive season, Metzger broke her own single-season record for total blocks (251) and finishes her career in second in Northwestern history with 688 blocks.
Maddy Sampson – First Team (Middle Hitter)
Sampson made an impact on both sides of the net this year, placing second on the team with 111 blocks and 237 kills. She improved her offensive numbers by over 100 kills and earned First Team All-GPAC accolades for the first time in her career.
The nine regions named 14 student-athletes to each All-Region team, with eight players earning honorable mention accolades. The Midnorth Region announced Greta Bochert of Governors State (Ill.) as the Freshman of the Year and Angie Boldt of Concordia (Neb.) as Assistant Coach of the Year, in addition to Northwestern’s honors.
