SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Northwestern forward Jesse Van Kalsbeek has been selected as the GPAC Defensive Player of the Week, presented by Hauff Mid-America Sports. It is the second consecutive week that Van Kalsbeek has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
“It is exciting to see Jesse get this kind of recognition. Everyone in our program understands that it takes the whole team,” head coach Colton Kooima said. “Jesse has had a great start to the year, but his teammates are completely bought in and a huge reason for his success.”
Van Kalsbeek notched his fifth double-double in as many games, putting up 22 points and 14 rebounds in Northwestern’s win over Viterbo. 11 of his rebounds came on the defensive glass.
On the year, Van Kalsbeek is averaging 31.0 points and 12.4 rebounds per game.
