Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley junior Kavri Van Kekerix and West Lyon junior Jersey Hawf have been named Class 3A softball first team all-state by the Iowa High School Girls Coaches Association. Van Kekrix slashed .593 at the plate this summer which was second best in Class 3A. Hawf was third in the class with a 1.08 earned run average over 122.2 innings pitched with 153 strikeouts. BHRV’s Rylee Bomgaars earned second team Class 3A honors along with Tori Elgersma of Sheldon while MOC-Floyd Valley’s Aubrey DeShaw landed on the third team.
Margo Schuiteman of Sioux Center topped Class 4A with a .541 batting average this season, and the junior was named second team all-state. Charli Grosenheider of Le Mars is on the third team in 4A.
After hitting at a .516 clip for West Sioux, junior Addison Westergaard was placed on the Class 2A third team all-state squad. Hinton’s Ashley Kovarna was a first teamer in 2A while Karlyn Kovarna was third team for Hinton.
In Class 1A, state qualifier Remsen St. Mary’s put three players on the top three squads: Mya Bunkers on the first team, Marina Cronin on the second team and Halle Galles on the third team. Mackenzie Hughes of Akron-Westfield also made the Class 1A second team. Class 1A honorable mention players were also announced and included, Makiah De Jager of Trinity Christian, Jinger Nieuwenhuis from South O’Brien, Larissa Pohlen of Gehlen Catholic and Claire Schroeder from Remsen St. Mary’s.
