Linebacker Jackson Smythe of Northwestern College is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. . It is the first time in his career that he has earned a GPAC weekly honor.
“Jackson has become a steady presence and a playmaker in our defense,” head coach Matt McCarty said. “His effort and leadership played a key role in keeping a shutout on Saturday.”
Smythe, a sophomore from Tea, South Dakota, led the Raiders with a career-high nine tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss, helping the Raiders to a 28-0 shutout. He leads Northwestern with 39 tackles on the year, on a defense that has shutout its opponents in all three wins this year. The Red Raiders host Morningside on October 18. Kick off will be at 1 pm.
