Northwestern’s Mikkelsen is this week’s GPAC softball player-of-the-week.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – In a week that saw Northwestern win four games to start Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) play, Red Raider infielder Gwen Mikkelsen has been voted as the GPAC Player of the Week, the league office announced this morning.

Mikkelsen (Jr., Casa Grande, Ariz.) continued to pace the Northwestern lineup this week, compiling a batting average of .667 on 10-15 hitting. She also had three doubles, a home run, and six RBI, driving in three runs in Wednesday’s win over Dakota Wesleyan alone. She was active in multiple areas of the game, stealing three bases in addition to posting a slugging percentage of 1.067. Defensively, Mikkelsen recorded five putouts for a perfect fielding percentage.

“Gwen has been playing great softball this year,” commented head coach Shane Bouman. “She is consistently working to improve and we love that she is a Red Raider.”

This week marks the second time this season that Mikkelsen has been named GPAC Player of the Week. She earned conference and national weekly honors on February 28.
