Northwestern’s Gramstad to Transfer to Nebraska

The 2023 NAIA Player of the Year, Jalyn Gramstad, has made the decision to use his final years of eligibility by transferring to play football at the University of Nebraska.

Gramstad said in a statement on his X account, “I am incredibly thankful to announce my commitment to Nebraska to use the remaining of my college eligibility! I’d like to thank Coach Rhule, Thomas, DiMichele, and Callaghan for giving me this opportunity. Thank you to everyone who has been apart of my journey at Northwestern. I’m forever grateful for the relationships and memories that I’ve made from my time spent. Thank you to Coach McCarty for impacting my life and believing in me.”

Gramstad leaves the Red Raiders with a 24-1 career record as the starting quarterback. He also led Northwestern to the 2022 NAIA National Title. Gramstad also ended his Red Raider career as the program’s single season leader in total offense (4,453; 2023) and total touchdowns (48; 2022). He has one season of eligibility remaining as well as a red shirt season as he pursue’s his Master’s Degree in Lincoln.

Northwestern Football Head Coach Matt McCarty said in a statement: “We are so excited for Jalyn as he has the opportunity to pursue playing FBS Power Five football,” McCarty said. “His growth and development through his Northwestern experience has been a privilege to be a part of. Our promise to each player is to invest in them where they are at and prepare them for what is next. In this case, it happens to be playing football in the Big Ten.”
