Northwestern Volleyball Adds Four to CSC Academic All-District Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Four Northwestern volleyball student-athletes have been recognized with College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors. Zavyr Metzger, Liv Reitsma, Sidney Oostra, and Maggie Bloom are Northwestern’s honorees, receiving accolades for their work on the court and in the classroom.

Bloom, a marketing major from Aurelia, Iowa, filled in one of the two libero spots for the Raiders, playing in 36 of 37 matches in her sophomore season. She finished third on the team in service aces (33) and averaged 2.21 digs per set. It is the first time for Bloom’s career that she has earned Academic All-District honors.

A two-time First Team CSC Academic All-America selection, Metzger added more accolades to a stacked resume, garnering GPAC Co-Defender of the Year and First Team AVCA All-Region honors. The senior nursing major from Larchwood, Iowa broke her own single-season blocks record (251), led the NAIA in blocks per set (1.99), and closes her career second in total blocks (688).

Moving to outside hitter in her second season on the Raiders, Oostra had a strong season overall, earning All-GPAC Honorable Mention accolades. The nursing major from Sioux Falls, South Dakota was one of four Raiders with at least 200 kills (211), was second on the team in service aces (35), and second in digs per set (2.71).

Reitsma, a senior sport management major from Papillion, Nebraska, secured new milestones this season, becoming the eighth Raider to reach 3,000 career assists and reaching the 1,000 digs mark. She led the Raiders with 709 assists, totaled a career-high 305 digs, and had 27 service aces. A two-time CSC Academic All-District selection, Reitsma closes her career with 3,060 assists and 1,040 digs in a Raider uniform.

Metzger and Reitsma will be placed among the nominees for CSC Academic All-America teams, voted on by members of the organization. Academic All-America teams will be announced on Tuesday, January 13.
