Northwestern golfers earn all-region honors

NORMAN, Okla. – Northwestern College men’s golfers Brock Murphy and Jackson Laven were tabbed All-Region Golfers by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) in the Central Region.

The Central Region features a team of 15 golfers, seeing six of them hail from the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC).

Brock Murphy (Sr., Tea, S.D.) wraps up his Northwestern golf career with his third-straight First Team All-Conference honor, in a season that saw him break the program’s career- and season-scoring average records. He was tabbed the GPAC Golfer of the Week back on September 21.

At the 2023 GPAC Championships, Murphy took home a T11th-place finish (75-74-71-220). He played in all 11 events this season (27 rounds) and led the Red Raiders in scoring average (73.0). He shot a season-low round of 66 at the Siouxland Invite with his best finish of the year being a tied-for-second at the Sioux Falls Invite.

The three-time First Team All-GPAC golfer lands his first-career GCAA All-Region nod.

Following his T2nd-place finish at the GPAC Championships this season, sophomore Jackson Laven (Okoboji, Iowa) garnered Second Team All-Conference honors. The finish was the best finish at the GPAC Championships since 2019 when Caleb Badura won the GPAC Individual title.

He finished the season with the team’s second-best scoring average of 74.4 (11 events, 27 rounds). His season low of 66 (-6) at the GPAC Championships (Round 3) also set his new career-best round. On the season, he notched five top-10 finishes for the Red Raiders.

The All-Region honor follows on the heels of the sophomore’s first-career All-GPAC honor.
