Conference realignment may be coming to the high school ranks in Northwest Iowa. According to a Siouxland Conference press release, officials from that league as well as the Lakes Conference and Western Christian High School met Tuesday (November 26) and reached a tentative agreement to realign beginning with the 2026-27 school year.
School boards have the ultimate say in any conference changes and superintendents from all the affected schools will present the proposal to their boards in December. Meanwhile, athletic directors from the schools will meet early next month to continue discussions about the logistics of the potential realignment to a 16-team conference.
The Siouxland Conference is currently a 10-team league with Boyden-Hull, Central Lyon, MOC-Floyd Valley, Okoboji, Rock Valley, Sheldon, Sibley-Ocheyedan, Sioux Center, Unity Christian and West Lyon.
The Lakes Conference has shrunk in recent years and currently is home to just five schools: Cherokee, Estherville-Lincoln Central, Spencer, Spirit Lake, and Storm Lake.
