NFCA honors Etherington and Mikkelsen as All-Americans

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced their All-American teams today, with Northwestern student-athletes Kameryn Etherington and Gwen Mikkelsen earning Second Team honors among National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) athletes. The duo becomes the first Raiders in program history to earn an NFCA All-American selection.

Etherington (Jr., Algona, Iowa) continued to climb the Northwestern record books this season, positioning herself as one of the best two-way players in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC). The junior was second in the conference in innings pitched (194.1) with an ERA of 2.38, also earning 21 wins in the circle. At the plate, she had 50 RBIs and led the team with her nine home runs.

The 2023 GPAC Player of the Year, Mikkelsen (Jr., Casa Grande, Ariz.) led the league in batting average (.445), on-base percentage (.522), RBI (59), doubles (20), and walks drawn (26). She was a two-time GPAC Player of the Week and was also an NAIA Player of the Week.

NFCA All-American athletes must be nominated by their NFCA-member head coach, are voted for by the coaches in their region or division, and ultimately selected by elected All-American committee members.
