Lammerts Receives GPAC Honor After Pair of Shutouts

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Northwestern sophomore goalkeeper Rick Lammerts has been named this week’s GPAC men’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

Lammerts played 180 minutes of shutout goalkeeping this week, collecting 10 saves in a 2-0 slate. On the year, he sits second in the GPAC in goals against average (1.20), fourth in goals against (12), and sixth in total saves (45). Lammerts holds a 4-1-4 record in net, playing a factor in the Raiders’ second-place standing in the conference.

“Rick has had an outstanding season, and his performance last week showed that,” head coach Dan Swier commented. “He had a couple high quality saves in the Briar Cliff match to preserve our 1-0 lead in the second half. Two days later, he helped us keep a shutout at Mount Marty, which is a tough place to play.”

Lammerts becomes Northwestern’s second GPAC Player of the Week selection this season after Alex Ruiz received the honor earlier this year.
