Haverdink receives GPAC Track Honor

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Northwestern Women’s track and field freshman Emily Haverdink has been named the GPAC women’s track athlete of the week following her performance at the Dordt Indoor Open on January 14. This is the third-career honor for Haverdink and her first in track and field.

In her first collegiate track and field meet, Haverdink won the 3000 M run with a time of 10:45.07. It was the fastest time in the GPAC this season and was four seconds ahead of the next-fastest runner. 10 athletes competed in the event, as Haverdink won her lone race of the day.

“Emily worked hard over Christmas break in less than ideal weather conditions to prepare for our indoor season,” said head coach Scott Bahrke. “She ran a smart and smooth race on Saturday, her first collegiate indoor race. I’m happy for Emily to receive this honor. It is well deserved!”

Haverdink previously won GPAC women’s runner of the week during the cross country season following her performances at the Augustana Twilight and Herb Blakely Invitational.
