Hat Trick Earns Darnold GPAC Offensive Player of the Week Honor

Northwestern sophomore forward Drew Darnold is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Soccer Offensive Player-of-the-Week. It is the second consecutive week that Darnold has earned a GPAC weekly honor. Darnold, a sophomore from Papillion, Nebraska, netted his first career hat trick and dished out an assist in Northwestern’s 5-1 win over Mount Marty on Saturday. His three goals came in the first 22 minutes of the game, completing his second multi-goal performance in three games.

Darnold has scored in four of the last five matches and currently leads the GPAC with nine goals.

“Drew’s performance against Mount Marty last week is an indication of the confidence he is playing with right now,” head coach Dan Swier said. “He and Daniel Lindahl are starting to work really well with each other. We look forward to seeing how Drew continues to help us during the second half of GPAC play.”
