Dordt names new baseball coach

Dordt University has announced the hiring of Ian Eshelman to serve as head baseball coach.

“I am thrilled to announce Ian will serve as our next baseball coach. I believe he will lead the program well as it pursues ways to fulfill the great commission; develop student-athletes academically; develop servant-leaders and pursue success on the field,” said Dordt Director of Athletics Darin Keizer.

Eshelman has served as the assistant varsity coach for the Dordt baseball program since the 2020 season while acting as recruiting coordinator, strength coach and third base coach. Prior to his time at Dordt Eshelman worked as a head baseball coach in the Puerto Rico Collegiate League (Summer 2019) where he oversaw player development, travel arrangements and scheduling. Eshelman served as the assistant coach at Arkansas Baptist College (Spring 2019); was the head coach of the Edgewater Pirates (Summer 2018); assistant coach at SUNY Cobleskill (Spring 2018 ); and the Wichita Aviators (Summer 2017).

“I look forward to using baseball as a vehicle for mentoring young men to glorify God while pursuing excellence in their daily lives,” said Eshelman.

Eshelman has a Bachelor Science in Communication from Central Christian College (Kansas) and a Master of Education in Sports Leadership at Dordt University. He’ll be Dordt’s fifth baseball coach since 1980.
