Dordt athletes named GPAC Runners of the week

Dordt University’s Payton Mauldin is this week’s GPAC Men’s track athlete-of-the-week. Mauldin, a senior, from George, Iowa, qualified for nationals in three events last weekend at the Mount Marty Invite held in Yankton, S.D. On Friday night, Mauldin ran a 1:53 split on his 800m carry of the Defenders winning distance medley. Dordt hit the ‘B’ standard and has the No.1 time in NAIA. Mauldin came back on Saturday and won two more events, taking the title in both the 200m and 600m. Mauldin’s time in the 200m (21.79) hit the ‘A’ standard and is No.6 in the NAIA. The senior’s time in the 600m (1:17.35) also hit the ‘A’ standard and is the No.1 time in the NAIA.

Corinne Braun of Dordt University is this week’s GPAC women’s track athlete-of-the-week. Braun, a freshman from Canton, South Dakota, hit the ‘A’ qualifying standard in two events last weekend at the Mount Marty Invite held in Yankton, South Dakota. On Friday night, Braun anchored the Defenders winning distance medley with a 5:08 1600m split on a 200m track. Dordt’s overall time of 12:14.9 hit the ‘A’ qualifying standard and is the No.1 time in the NAIA. On Saturday, Braun followed with her second win of the indoor season in the 1000m. Braun’s time of 2:58.31 is a personal best, hit the ‘A’ standard and is the No.1 time in the NAIA. Braun’s time is also the second fastest all-time in program history.
