Dordt athletes named GPAC Cross Country runners of the week

Joy Koole of Dordt University is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Women’s Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week. Koole, a freshman from Windsor, Colorado, helped lead the ninth-ranked Defenders to the team title at their home meet, The Sunflower Open. Competing in her first collegiate race, Koole won the 5K race with a time of 18:32, seven second in front of her teammate Addy Liston. Koole’s time is currently third fastest in the GPAC.

Truman Johnson of Dordt University is the GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Men’s Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week. Johnson, a sophomore from Saline, Michigan, led the Defenders to the team title at their home meet last weekend. He finished second overall in the field of 81 runners, trailing only an unattached runner in the standings. The second-place finish was the best finish for Johnson in his career and he has the fastest time in the GPAC this season.
