De Haan and Metzger Land on CSC Academic All-America First Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Northwestern College volleyball student-athletes Jazlin De Haan and Zavyr Metzger have been named First Team College Sports Communicators (CSC) NAIA Academic All-America selections, the organization announced this morning. They were selected among seven first team members, voted on by members of CSC.

“What a great honor to represent the Academic All-America first team for both Jazlin and Zavyr,” head coach Kyle Van Den Bosch said. “This shows the dedication and hard work they have put in both on the volleyball court and also in the classroom.”

De Haan finished the year sitting second in the NAIA in kills per set (4.69). The junior had a phenomenal outing at the Tyson Events Center, posting a double-double in all five matches played, while guiding the Red Raiders to their first-ever national championship match.

The Orange City, Iowa native was named an AVCA/NAIA First Team All-American, the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Player of the Year, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) West Central Region Player of the Year, an AVCA All-Region performer and a First Team All-Conference selection.

De Haan is a junior studying physical education at Northwestern College.

Zavyr Metzger // So., Middle Hitter

Metzger dominated at the net this season for the Red Raiders. She led the NAIA in both total blocks (229) and blocks per set (1.97). She was the only NAIA athlete to record 200+ blocks this season.

The Larchwood, Iowa native was named the GPAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, a First Team All-Conference performer, and AVCA West Central Honorable Mention All-Region honoree.

Metzger studies nursing at Northwestern and also garnered her first career NAIA Scholar-Athlete honor this season.

De Haan and Metzger are the program’s first Academic All-America selections since 2020, when Lacey (Wacker) Reitz was a first team honoree and Anna Wedel a second team selection.
