Coldiron to join baseball coaching staff at Northwestern

ORANGE CITY, Iowa – Northwestern Head baseball coach Brian Wede has announced the hiring of Ben Coldiron to the baseball staff, as a graduate assistant starting in the 2024 season.

“We are excited to add Ben to our coaching staff. He is a quality young man with a high desire to influence Christian men and to be a baseball coach,” notes Wede. “He will help our pitching staff and will be a good asset for us in our recruitment of student-athletes.”

Coldiron comes to Northwestern after a four-year career at fellow Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) school, Concordia (Neb.) where he pitched for four years for the Bulldogs.

“I’m excited to join the Northwestern baseball program for the next couple of seasons,” said Coldiron. “I hope to learn a lot from Coach Wede and the rest of his staff, as they have a wealth of experience and have seen success in the past.”

The Gretna, Neb. native appeared in 26 games as Bulldog, throwing 43.0 innings. In a combined starter and relief roll throughout his career at Concordia, Coldiron made four starts and held a 3-1 record on the mound.

Coldiron is a 2023 graduate of Concordia University (Neb.) with a degree in psychology with a minor in sports psychology. While coaching on Wede’s staff, he will be working on a graduate degree in athletic administration.
