Bourdo named men’s soccer coach at Dordt

Dordt University named Eric Bourdo its next head men’s soccer coach late this week. Bourdo will be the 10th head coach in the 44-year history of the program.

“I look forward to supporting and working with Eric as we move the Defender soccer program forward. He was an important piece of the 2022 team’s success while serving as the assistant coach,” said Dordt Director of Athletics Ross Douma. “Eric has shown much growth during his four years as an assistant coach at Dordt and has responded well to the responsibilities given him. Eric will administer the Defender Way well in the program as he pushes players to succeed.”

Bourdo has been an assistant in the Dordt soccer program since 2019 and he has completed his USSF Grassroots license and is working towards his “D” License. He played soccer for the Defenders and earned honorable mention all-GPAC honors as a junior and senior and was the team captain during his senior season. He graduated from Dordt in 2019 and completed a master’s degree in sport leadership at Dordt in 2022.

“I am grateful for the opportunity the Lord has blessed me with to lead this program. I want to thank Ross Douma and the coaches before me for the work they have put in for the program to be where it is today. Dordt was a place that transformed me spiritually, educationally, and relationally as a student and now as a coach and I see it as a gift to take part in these young men’s experiences at Dordt. I’ll work to help student-athletes to discern their calling throughout their college years. I am honored to be able to live out the Defender Way on and off the pitch with these men and am excited to build on this positive momentum as we continue to cultivate an authentic, Christian soccer program,” said Bourdo.

Bourdo will coach a program that had eight all-GPAC performers in 2022 and finished 9-4-6 overall and 6-1-4 in the GPAC for third place.
