A pair of Red Raiders earn GPAC Volleyball weekly awards

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Following a career-high 13 blocks in the road win at No. 13-ranked Midland on Saturday, Northwestern College junior Macay Van’t Hul received her first-career GPAC Volleyball Defender of the Week honors.

Van’t Hul (Jr., Rock Valley, Iowa) tied the program record for an individual match with her 13 blocks in the top-15 road win last week over No. 13-ranked Midland (3-0). On the week, she averaged 2.33 blocks per set in the six sets played. Additionally, she added six kills on 19 swings for a 0.316 hitting percentage.

She sits behind fellow teammate Zavyr Metzger (So., Larchwood, Iowa) – who has also won GPAC Defender of the Week accolades, plus NAIA Defender of the Week honors – for third in the NAIA in blocks per set (1.55). The junior has recorded 62 blocks this season which sits second on the team and tied-for-sixth in the GPAC.

It marks the first-career weekly honor for the Rock Valley native. Four different Red Raiders have earned weekly honors now this season in De Haan, Van’t Hul, Metzger, and Liv Reitsma (So., Papillion, Neb.).

For the second time this season, a pair of Red Raiders earned weekly honors as Jazlin De Haan (Jr., Orange City, Iowa) was tabbed GPAC Attacker of the Week.

De Haan, a junior from Orange City, Iowa, tallied 29 kills in just six sets as the Red Raiders picked up two road sweeps over Morningside and #13 Midland. She averaged 4.83 kills per set to lead the Red Raider attack and also contributed 21 digs and eight blocks as Northwestern improved to 5-1 in GPAC play.

Northwestern has now received five weekly honors this season, which leads all GPAC teams. Concordia (Neb.) sits right behind with four honorees.
